Postponing a Wedding: Celebrating What Would Have Been Your Wedding Day

couple make love heart with hands

Postponing your wedding day can be very upsetting, so when your 'would have been wedding day' date rolls around, you may feel overwhelmed and upset about how things could have been.

Celebrating this day is a great way to lift your spirits, and not let the day go to waste!

Here are some of our favourite ideas for celebrating your 'Would have been wedding day':

Date at the venue

If your venue is local, then why not go on a date there? Despite not being able to have your full wedding there, you may still be able to have a delicious meal there with your partner, or a picnic in the grounds.

If it is a hotel, then you could also book a room and stay overnight.

Chill day

With so much going on at the minute, you might just need a chill day. Have breakfast in bed, watch your favourite films, and then order a takeaway - and forget the chores!

This will feel so amazing, and is also a great option if you are self-isolating, as you don't need to leave the house.

Buy your partner a gift

Show your partner how much you love and appreciate them with a thoughtful gift. This could be anything from a spa gift-card to a personalised photo frame - choose something that you know they would love.

A personalised print is sure to make them smile, and adds some beautiful decoration to your home as well.

Write a love letter

If you are on a tight budget, then you could write them a love letter instead of giving them a gift.

There's nothing more romantic than a traditional love letter, and your partner is sure to cherish it for years to come.

Bake a wedding cake

Baking with your partner can be so much fun! Get creative in the kitchen and bake a wedding cake (and then try not to eat it all at once!). You could either bake one cake together or have a cake decorating competition.

If you're not particularly skilled in the kitchen, you could always buy a cake from the supermarket. Treat yourselves!

Make your wedding menu

Feeling even more ambitious? Attempt cooking your wedding menu!

You obviously chose this food as you love it, so why not? It's the perfect treat food after postponing your wedding.

Mr and Mrs quiz

Here at Dotty About Paper, we love a quiz. It's a great way to connect with friends and family when you're all socially distanced in your own homes.

Host a quiz with several different rounds, and get the whole family involved.

Alternatively, if it's just you and your partner, then you could have a classic 'Mr and Mrs' style quiz instead. So much fun!

Plan your wedding!

Thankfully, as your wedding has just been postponed, this means you can still look forward to and prepare for it. Pick some new wedding invitations or other stationery and start looking forward to the new date.

Dedicate the whole day to planning with your partner, and keep an eye out for any new wedding trends that are popping up.
