What Do You Put in a Sweet Cone?

What Do You Put in a Sweet Cone?

As most parents will know, sweet cones are the trendy accessory to any modern kids’ birthday party.

Most of us will have fond memories of helping our parents pick out toys, sweets and cake to include in our own party bag. Giving out a sweet cone will allow the other children to have something to cherish and reminisce as well.

A classic treat adorned with toys like tiny plastic yo-yos or a mini packet of Haribo and sometimes even squashed sponge cake in return - the party bag is now a relic of a bygone era.

Cheap and easy to put together and a nice token of party attendance, sweet cones are a great alternative. They’re also ideal for a product to sell at local fetes, a donation to a school or charity fundraiser or even as Halloween treats for the neighbourhood.

So if you’ve decided sweet cones are the way to go, how do you select the perfect contents?

Event theme or colour scheme

You might like to consider what event the sweet cones are for and if there’s a specific theme or colour scheme for that event.

For example, if your child is having a unicorn-themed birthday party then pink, white and purple sweets - such as mini marshmallows, Millions and Love Hearts - might be a good fit.

Or, if it’s a football party you’re catering for, sweets in the colour of a favourite team may go down well. Smarties or Skittles could be good for this, as you can pick the most appropriate colours.

An event such as Halloween could also call for a specific colour scheme, with black and orange sweets possibly the most fitting. While at Christmas, reds and greens would work well.

Beware of allergies

If you’re making sweet cones for a birthday party, it could be a good idea to check with other parents to see if any of the children attending have food allergies. If so, you may need to make those children slightly different sweet cones or avoid certain sweets entirely. It’s also good to keep in mind that during particular times of the year it may be advisable not to include chocolates due to the heat. Chocolate is also the types of sweets to be wary of if any of the guests are lactose intolerant. It’s also probably a good idea to avoid any nuts as well, with some allergies air-borne and potentially very severe.

Don’t forget your decorations
