Making your child’s birthday party invite super special

Writing a birthday invitation is much easier said than done! However, it can still be a lot of fun. Here is our quick and easy guide to creating your ideal birthday invitation.

Important Details

Name

Don't forget to include the name of who's birthday it is! If you are handing out your invitations, you may want to just include your first name. However, if you are sending your invites via post then you may wish to put your full name, just to make sure no one gets confused.

Age

If you're having a milestone birthday celebration, let everyone know! You can buy invitations that specifically show off your age, or you can choose to keep it a bit more subtle by putting it into the text. Either way, it's completely up to you!

Date and Time

Remember to include the date and time of your celebration. You may also want to write the day of the week in which the party falls, as this will help guests to plan.

Location

Include the location of your party venue. You may also want to include some details of how to get there, and any details of the parking situation.

Theme

If you're having a themed party, make sure to let guests know by putting it into your wording. You can also choose a birthday invitation to suit your theme, like our popular 'Go Kart' invitations.

Dress Code

Likewise, its important to mention the dress code if you are going for a specific look. Popular dress codes include black tie, fancy dress, and 80s, but you can go for anything that suits you.

Extra Details

Surprise party?

Make sure to mention if it is a surprise party, as you won't want to let the cat out of the bag!

RSVP Details

Tell guests how best to reply to you, whether that's via telephone, Facebook, or email. You will also want to let guests know when to RSVP by.

No parents

If you're having a kids party in a smaller venue, you may want to let parents know that they don't need to hang around all day.

What to bring

If you're having a sleepover party, or doing something quirky like a camp out, let guests know what they should bring with them.

Food

Let guests know about what food or drinks are going to be served on the day. This is particularly important if you are having caterers at your party, or you're planning to go out for a meal.

How do I write a simple children's birthday invitation?

A simple kids birthday invitation should include the name of the person having the party, the date, time, and location of the event, as well as RSVP details. You may also want to include a dress code for the children (for example, superhero and princess fancy dress) and let guests know if it is a surprise party. It's also important to note whether you want parents to stay with their children at the venue or if they can leave the young guests (and if so, add what time they will need to be picked up!) Add some contact details in case parents need to ask you any questions; for example, if a young guest has any allergies, their guardians might want to ask you what food you will be serving at the party.

How long before a kids birthday party should you send invitations?

We recommend sending birthday invitations around 3-6 weeks before the day. This gives your child's guests and their parents plenty of time to buy a card and a gift, as well as plan their outfit and any other details. Any longer than 6 weeks may result in parents forgetting!

What is the best way to invite children to your kid's party?

We definitely think there is no better way to invite someone to a party than with a lovely paper invitation! Kids will be so excited to get their invite through the post box. You can choose from such a wide range of styles, including colourful cartoon art that really appeals to little ones. They are so exciting to receive and will really make your guests look forward to the celebrations.

How do you wish a child happy birthday?

Are you getting your child ready to attend their friend's party? If so, you might be wondering how you'll wish them the perfect happy birthday. If you’re attending a child’s birthday party, you will want to get them a special card and a gift. Help your child to write a short but sweet message inside the card wishing their friend a very happy birthday. Are you attending the party with your little one to supervise? Then don’t forget to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ at the party, too! The more the merrier!
